Art Therapy: combining professional psychotherapy with the creative process.
Art Therapy as I Practice It
Every culture speaks through art, and almost every individual can speak through art. Artistic expression is a way for people to communicate ideas and feelings too complex, or too abstract, or too joyful or painful to talk about. Many people are simply not comfortable with words, and feel oppressed by direct interaction; for these clients, the gentler, less intimidating methods of art therapy can help them reach depths within themselves they might otherwise never reveal.
I believe in a client-centered approach to therapy, based on each client's individual needs and characteristics.
I am committed to providing a therapeutic environment that is safe, non-judgmental, compassionate, and supportive.
All sessions are confidential. There are a few of exceptions to the confidentiality policy: life or death situations, the risk of self-harm, or harm to others, court mandates, etc. The confidentiality of the client-therapist relationship will be discussed further in the initial session.
Artwork created in therapy is private and confidential. It belongs to you, and you can take it home with you at any time. If you'd rather store it with me, I'll keep it locked safely away in my office.
